'Star Wars' Reads Day set for Oct. 10

BB-8, a new character in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," is a poster droid for "Star Wars" Reads Day.

Break out the lightsabers and bookmarks — Star Wars Reads Day is coming Oct. 10.

The fourth annual event will again celebrate all things from that galaxy far, far away as well as the joy of reading for all ages. In honor of the day, Lucasfilm has created two new logos: One with Yoda nose deep in a book, and the other starring BB-8, the rolly-polly new droid making his big screen debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (in theaters Dec. 18).

Last year's Star Wars Reads Day offered celebrations with authors, illustrators and other luminaries at Barnes & Nobles, Books-A-Millions and more than 1,000 libraries and independent bookstores.

This year's event coincides with the Disney/Lucasfilm publishing initiative "The Journey to the Force Awakens" — with new novels and comic books setting up the characters and story of the upcoming movie — participants in the October festivities include Disney-Lucasfilm Press, Marvel, Abrams, Chronicle, Del Rey, DK, Quirk Books and Scholastic, among other publishers.
