Ray McDonald violates restraining order, arrested for second time in three days

Former Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested Wednesday in Santa Clara, Calif., for violating a restraining order, Santa Clara police said in a news release.

It marked the second arrest in three days for McDonald.

The restraining order violation stemmed from McDonald's arrest Monday on charges of domestic violence and child endangerment for allegedly assaulting a woman while she was holding a baby. The Bears released McDonald about six hours after the arrest.

The incident was McDonald's second domestic violence arrest in the past year, though charges were not filed on the first incident in August 2014, when he was a member of the 49ers. He played in 14 games in the ensuing season, but the 49ers released him in December after he was named in a sexual assault investigation.

General manager Ryan Pace and the Bears faced criticism for signing McDonald before and after his arrest Monday.

"We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear," Pace said in a statement after McDonald's release. "He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him."
