President Obama meets with prison inmates at a federal prison in El Reno, Okla., in July 2015.

The trailer for one of HBO's new specials features President Obama, in a prison and talking to inmates about prison reform.

The special, VICE Special Report: Fixing The System will air Sunday, Sept. 27, and will include Obama's tour in July of the Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno, Okla.

It was the first time a sitting president has ever visited a federal prison.

HBO says the special, hosted by Shane Smith, is aimed at giving viewers a look at the pervasive consequences of America’s approach to crime and imprisonment. It explores the interlocking pieces of the sprawling system, from prisoners and their families to the judiciary and community reformers.

By visiting El Reno, where he met with inmates and prison officials, Obama signaled that criminal justice reform will be a top priority for the final months of his presidency.

As he called again for legislation to permit lighter sentences for non-violent drug offenders and other changes, there were more signs from Congress that some of his ideas are gaining bipartisan support.

"We have to consider whether this is the smartest way for us to both control crime and rehabilitate individuals," Obama said after the tour.
