Russell Westbrook came up big on Wednesday night.

He also may be the result of a military experiment, but more on that later. Five days ago, The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard literally broke his face. On Wednesday night, he donned a mask and showed up against the Philadelphia Sixers in a huge way.

He messed around and got a career high 49 points, 10 assists and 16 rebounds in the Thunder’s 123-118 overtime win over the Sixers, and while we all sat with our jaws dropped to the floor in amazement, Westbrook looked disappointed at not putting up 50.

Now, a 49-point-triple-double performance is rare. How rare? It hasn’t been done since Larry Bird was still playing.

You wanna know what’s even rarer? The fact that it was Westbrook’s fourth straight triple-double– a feat that hasn’t been completed since Michael Jordan in 1989.

Is Russell Westbrook a championship-caliber point guard? Who can say? Are his media antics childish? Possibly. Was he bathed in the River Styx as an infant? The jury’s still out on that.

One thing is for sure, though: Russell Westbrook is very, very, very good at basketball.
