Ducks hope Tomas Fleischmann can rediscover scoring touch

Florida Panthers forward Tomas Fleischmann has seven goals and 21 points this season.

The Anaheim Ducks found a possible linemate for Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry by acquiring left wing rental player Tomas Fleischmann from the Florida Panthers for a third-round pick and Dany Heatley.

Fleischmann, 30, only has 15 goals in his past 132 games for the Panthers, but he was a 23-goal scorer for Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau when Boudreau was coaching the Washington Capitals in 2009-10.

Heatley was originally signed with the hope that he could play on the top line, but that didn't work and he ended up being sent to the American Hockey League.

The Panthers were hoping to get a second for Fleischmann to replace the one they gave up for Jaromir Jagr. The Panthers received a third-round pick when they dealt Sean Bergenheim to the Minnesota Wild.

The bottom line for the Panthers: they traded Bergenheim and Fleischmann and swapped a second for a third to get Jagr. All of those players are in the last season of their contract.

Neither team is probably done dealing. The Panthers are expected to move rental forward Tomas Kopecky and the Ducks may still be seeking to acquire a defenseman.

The Ducks have had bad luck with injuries on defense for much of the season.
