Blue Jackets' Ryan Johansen surprises fans by wearing Ohio State jersey

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Blue Jackets forward showed off some home town pride Saturday night during the NHL All-Star Breakaway Challenge.

Before racing down the ice and firing the puck into the net, Johansen took off his Jackets sweater to reveal a Ohio State football jersey underneath. And the Columbus crowd, predictably, loved it.

In fact, Johansen wanted a Ohio State football helmet to go with the jersey, but couldn’t find one that fit.

Players brought out all sorts of tricks to win the crowd over during this portion of the skills event. St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott pulled out a hidden cell phone (where did he put that?) to pose for a selfie while teammate Victor Tarasenko took a shot.

Players win this event based on Twitter hashtag votes. And Johansen’s shameless homering won him the NHL Breakaway Challenge.
