These mysterious messages in the sky are meant for you

NEW ORLEANS -- For the past couple of days, people have been mystified by mysterious, positive messages appearing above their heads.

"Nobody could figure out who was doing it and why they were doing it," said an onlooker.

Clouds of love seem to be appearing out of thin air.

"We were at Jazz Fest today and saw this big heart," said Jimi Harper.

The man with the magic wand -- or, rather, the magic airplane -- is Nathan Hammond. He's been skywriting for nearly 20 years, one of only five in the country to do so.

"The last thing you want to do is spell something wrong," said Hammond.

Words like hope, faith, and coexist have been inspiring city dwellers and popping up all over social media.

The messages of love were the idea of local businessman Frank Scurlock. He hired Hammond to write the sky messages after being moved by all of the recent violence in the city and across the country.

"Start spreading love, try to make people realize that we're all in this together, and there's absolutely no sense in everything that's happening," said Charla Miller.

TV station WWL asked Hammond how he makes the letters so perfect. Flying the appropriately named Sky Magic, he said a good magician never reveals all of his secrets

Scurlock and Hammond are glad they aren't just putting smiles in the sky, but also on people's faces.

Scurlock is trying to raise funds to purchase a plan so that he can spread positive messages more often in the city.
