Police want to take Punxsutawney Phil into custody

Punxsutawney Phil, the weather prognosticating groundhog, is held by the gloved handler Ron Ploucha during the 129th celebration of Groundhog Day on Gobbler's Knob in Pa.

Police departments can have a sense of humor, too.

The Merrimack Police Department in New Hampshire has put out "a warrant for Punxsutawney Phil!"

"We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty," the police department wrote in a Facebook post this week. "He told several people that Winter would last 6 more week, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow!"

Phil, the meteorological rodent, saw his shadow on Feb. 2 on Groundhog Day.

Folks wrote back with funny replies to the police post on the social media page.

Judy Berezansky said: "You have identified the wrong suspect. Queen Elsa is behind the weather."

And Melanie Brigham Nason asked: "Could you put out a warrant for Snow Miser too? I think they are working together."

Jon Do just said: "Run Phil! The po-po are after you!

Phil, however, may be difficult to catch. Police asked that people not approach him because he's "armed and dangerous."
