The next original series from Netflix might take viewer to Hyrule.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the classic video game franchise The Legend of Zelda from Nintendo.

Citing "a person familiar with the matter," the report says Netflix describes the show as Game of Thrones for families, as viewers watch hero Link attempt to rescue Princess Zelda and save the land of Hyrule.

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's longest-running franchise, spanning nearly 30 years with the introduction of the original game titled The Legend of Zelda in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Nintendo has a history leveraging its franchises -- which also include Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon -- into entertainment properties outside video games. In the late '80s, the video game publisher launched a pair of cartoons based on Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo also took a swing at live-action with the critically-panned 1993 film Super Mario Bros. starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.
