Magic's Victor Oladipo out after taking elbow to face

Magic guard Victor Oladipo will be delayed in getting on court this season.

Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo is out indefinitely with a facial fracture from Thursday's practice, the team announced Friday morning.

Oladipo, who was hit in the face by an accidental elbow, will have surgery Saturday.

The second-year guard from Indiana was runner-up in the 2013-14 NBA rookie of the year voting, behind Philadelphia Michael Carter-Williams, who will miss the start of the season as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Oladipo's injury is significant hit for the Magic, who were relying on Oladipo to help Orlando make tangible improvement over last season's 23-59 record. Oladipo averaged 13.8 points, 4.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals last season.

His absence puts a heavier load on rookie guard Elfrid Payton, who was the No. 10 pick in the draft from Louisiana-Lafayette. The Magic like Payton and are confident he can turn into a great point guard. But he might be getting more minutes earlier than expected.
