MSNBC host: We're paying off $70,000 IRS debt
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- MSNBC weekend talk show host Melissa Harris-Perry said she and her husband have paid off about a third of the nearly $70,000 in delinquent taxes they owe the IRS and have a payment plan to deal with the rest.
According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the Internal Revenue Service filed a notice of a tax lien against the couple on April 6 in Forsyth County Hall of Justice.
In an email to the newspaper on Wednesday, Harris-Perry said personal crises caused her and her husband James Perry to pay off their debt slower than they anticipated. Harris-Perry said they paid $21,721 when they filed taxes Wednesday and are working with the IRS to pay the remaining $48,581, which according to the notice covers a tax period ending Dec. 31, 2013.
Harris-Perry, a political professor and Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, hosts an MSNBC show that airs 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays and Sundays.
