"It's not just for black and white people, it is also for all races."

"He doesn't want people to be separated."

"Today, I can go to ballet class no matter what race I am. I can go to school with other kids with different races and black and white people can both vote."

These are some takeaways from Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech, according to nine-11-year-olds in New York. They were filmed by SheKnows Studios and are part of Hatch, which is a media literacy program. SheKnows is a media company that focuses on women's lifestyle. Hatch is a separate entity. The video was posted to YouTube today.

The kids were unscripted on purpose. And wrote thank you letters to MLK Jr.

"The reason we think it is important that kids speak in their own words is because Hatch is committed to teaching young people how to build their own personal identities in a responsible way, both online and off," says founder Samantha Skey. "A key component of that is accountability for their own voice."

Pretty insightful stuff.

"They were intuitive in thinking through the things they wouldn't be able to do if not for the Civil Rights movement," Skey said. "They also jumped very quickly from race equality to human equality of all kinds; gay rights, gender equality, rights for homeless people. They looked at the map of equality through a very broad lens."
