Not much has been going right for the Arizona Coyotes recently. Fortunately for them, things also have been going poorly for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Coyotes rallied to beat the Maple Leafs 3-1 Thursday night to end a seven-game losing streak. The rally started with an Oliver Ekman-Larsson goal that typified the Maple Leafs’ bad run.

It was scored five seconds into the third period. It was short-handed and worst of all, it was a flip shot from 114 feet away that eluded Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier.

As Ekman-Larsson told the Arizona Republic:

“I got lucky there. It turned. I don’t know if it bounced before it went in. You know when you get that feeling right away like, ‘Oh, this one’s going to go in,’ I felt it right away. It was a weird feeling.”

The goal was the fastest short-handed goal from the start of a period  and tied the quickest goal in franchise history to start any period, according to the Republic.

Bernier told reporters after the game: “I didn’t see it. I lost it in the stands. It just dipped on me.”

The struggling Maple Leafs have one win in their last 12 games.
