McLaren reveals shockingly fast supercar

The McLaren 675LT will be one of its fastest cars.

In the sport of boasting of having the fastest and most exciting supercar, McLaren may capture the attention at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

It's going introduce the new McLaren 675LT that will have the kind of blistering performance that will shake up the tiny world of people who can afford such expensive and exotic machinery.

The car's 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine produces 666 horsepower, which is good for zero to 62 mph times of 2.9 seconds. Want to keep the pedal to the metal? Zero to 124 mph comes in 7.9 seconds — probably about as long as it took to read this paragraph. Top speed is 205 mph.

The 675LT (the LT is for "long tail") saves about 220 pounds over other cars in McLaren's Super Series of exotics. The weight saving came mostly through use of carbon-fiber body panels. Plus, the engine and chassis are lighter.

In order to make the most of weight reduction, there was a price to be paid: The air conditioner was taken out, although McLaren says they'll put it back at no charge if asked.

Horsepower is just one factor that explains how the car can roar down the straightaway faster than many others.

McLaren notes that with all that power, it will be hard to resist taking the car to the racetrack. But it won't have to be towed there. The car is also meant to be fully street legal.
