Tim Tebow and Jameis Winston are the state of Florida’s two latest Heisman winners. That’s about all the two have in common.

On Saturday, the former Florida quarterback and current SEC Network analyst had some words of wisdom for Winston, Florida State’s embattled signal caller who just served a one-game suspension for shouting an obscene and derogatory phrase about women on the FSU campus. (The Seminoles hung on to beat Clemson in OT, with Winston on the sidelines).

Speaking on ESPN’s SportsCenter Saturday, Tebow said it’s his “hope and prayer” for Winston to find “wise counsel” and use better judgement.

“He has something that’s more important to live for than just the moment,” Tebow said. “Because when you live for the moment, the moment will always let you down in silly situations like he’s been in the past.

“I have two sisters and a mom, and what was said just isn’t OK. My hope and prayer for Jameis is that he can find people that will invest in him and invest in his life.

Tebow, who has lived under a bright spotlight, said Winston has an opportunity to inspire in a positive way.

“I hope he can see that and understand that these kids are going to watch him and they’re going to follow him and it’s his responsibility to lead them in a good direction,” Tebow said.

“And this kid has so many attributes that could be used for positive things. … Whether … he leads people in a good direction or a bad direction, he’s a big-time leader. His attributes of infectious personality, you know people rally around him. That could be used for good things or bad things.”
