ABC nips 'Kings,' moves 'Quantico'

ABC's 'Of Kings and Prophets' has gotten the ax even before it premiered, although the network says the series will be retooled.

ABC's biblical drama Of Kings and Prophets is the first casualty of the new TV season, even though it has yet to air.

The network pulled the show from its fall schedule, just a few weeks after unveiling it to advertisers in New York, following negative reaction from ad buyers. It will be replaced Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT this fall by Quantico, a more promising newcomer starring Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra that's set at the FBI's training base.

No word on what will take Quantico's original slot on Tuesdays, where it was due to replace the canceled Forever, but don't look for that show to return from the grave.

The switch follows the underwhelming performance of NBC's A.D. The Bible Continues, and last year's decision by Fox to shelve Hieroglyph, an Egyptian drama, before its debut. But Kings isn't entirely over: ABC says it will recast and redevelop the series, shortening its episode order to 10 from 13, but has made no commitment to an air date.
