NASHVILLE — Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood surprised a sold-out audience at the Grand Ole Opry Friday night with an unannounced appearance.

Yearwood came out first, introduced by Vince Gill.

"I didn't have a chance to bring my band or call them or anything," she said, "but luckily, I live with a Grand Ole Opry member, so if you all would welcome my guitar player tonight, my husband, Mr. Garth Brooks!"

Brooks accompanied Yearwood on acoustic guitar, as she sang her 1991 hit She's in Love With the Boy. Then the couple performed a medley of classic country duets: Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn's After the Fire Is Gone, Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius' I Don't Want to Have to Marry You and George Jones and Tammy Wynette's Golden Ring.

Both Brooks and Yearwood are members of the radio show's cast, Brooks having joined in 1990 and Yearwood following nine years later.

The appearance marked Brooks' first Opry performance in nearly 10 years, though he inducted Carrie Underwood as an Opry member in 2008.

Brooks is currently in the middle of a world tour that stops next in Houston June 26.

The longest-running radio show in the U.S., the Opry began broadcasting on Nashville's WSM-AM in 1925 and is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary.
