Shailene Woodley tops all-women 2014 IMDb star list

Shailene Woodley is tops on IMDb.com in 2014.

Shailene Woodley has dethroned Jennifer Lawrence atop IMDb's annual Top 10 Stars list, which for the first time is composed solely of women.

The ranking is a highlight of the Internet Movie Database's Best of 2014 section launching Tuesday, featuring lists based on searches by the site's 200 million unique monthly visitors.

Woodley ranked No. 64 on 2013's full Top 100 Stars list and shot to the top this year after appearing in Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, two hits aimed at Internet-savvy audiences.

"This was Shailene Woodley's breakout year," says IMDb managing editor Keith Simanton. "She has a huge amount of onscreen charisma. And this was the year the world just got her."

Simanton was also impressed by the first female sweep of the Top 10, which has been compiled for a decade. Last year, seven men made the list, led by Leonardo DiCaprio at No. 3. This year he was again the highest ranked male, but at No. 11.

"Normally, it's fairly well distributed says Simanton. "But there were a lot of strong roles for women this year."

Margot Robbie, with Leonardo DiCaprio, broke out in "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Among the other lists to be revealed Tuesday is the Top 10 Breakout Stars, which features actors entering the annual Top 100 for the first time. No. 1 on the Breakout list is Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), who is also No. 3 in the Top 10. After her Wolf performance as DiCaprio's eye-catching wife, "Everyone came on the site to say, 'Who the heck is that?' '' says Simanton.

The Australian actress has also landed a high-profile role for 2016, as Jane in Tarzan.

Other highlights from the lists:

  • Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, 2013's American Hustle) makes her fourth appearance on the Top 10 list, dropping a spot to No. 2.

  • Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones) grabs the fourth Top 10 spot, moving up one slot from 2013. She'll portray Sarah Connor in 2015's Terminator Genysis.

  • Transformers: Age of Extinction star Nicola Peltz debuts in the Top 10 Stars list at No. 6 and in the Breakout list at No. 2.

  • Rosamund Pike might be a former Bond girl, but it took a starring role in Gone Girl to propel her to No. 8 on the Top 10 Stars (No. 3 on the Breakout list).

  • The men made a stronger showing in the Breakout list with Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt (No. 4), Divergent's Theo James (No. 6), Dallas Buyers Club Oscar-winner Jared Leto (No. 7) and Fifty Shades of Greystar Jamie Dornan (No. 10).
