For the one million Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners who downloaded a special app from Jay-Z, set your alarms. Tonight at 12:01 a.m. ET, those owners will get first listen to the hip-hop star's album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

The album will be available for free to the first million who downloaded the app through the Samsung Galaxy SIII, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note II.

Users can share the app with other Galaxy owners using Facebook, Twitter or the smartphone's S-Beam feature. The album releases worldwide three days later.

For electronics giant Samsung, it's another potential sign of the company's growing hip factor in its battle against rival Apple.

Samsung's ability to look cool among tech consumers has been debated for months in pieces from outlets including The Wall Street Journal, through a massive ad campaign and devices boasting larger screens.

The electronics titan has emerged as a major rival to Apple, which has dominated the smartphone market with its iPhone. According to an April report from research firm IDC, Samsung is the top company for smartphone shipments with a 32.7% share of the market.
