Nine athletes who hate tax day
April 15th is tax day, which is generally one of the most depressing days of the year for the average working person. For folks who have been caught evading taxes, it's likely an annual nightmare. Here are 10 gentlemen who just want it to be Tuesday already.
1. Darryl Strawberry
Strawberry's been in jail for a multitude of reasons, but he was convicted of tax evasion in 1995, and continues to miss tax payments as recently as 2011.
2. Pete Rose
Rose served five months in jail after pleading guilty to tax evasion in 1990, and again owed the IRS more than $100,000 in a separate incident a decade later.
3. Nick Diaz
After being shellacked by Georges St-Pierre a few weeks ago, Diaz revealed in the post-fight press conference that he'd never paid taxes in his life.
4. O.J. Simpson
O.J. owed the state of California $1.4 million at one point, but his 33-year prison term is probably a bigger concern.
5. Boris Becker
The German was ordered to pay 3 million euros in back taxes in 2002, but avoided a term in jail.
6. Lawrence Taylor
Taylor failed to report $48,000 in income and was sentenced to three months of house arrest in 1997.
7. Freddie Mitchell
"Fred Ex" pleaded guilty to a tax-fraud scheme in March after he received an inflated return of $2 million dollars. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
8. Sidney Lowe
Lowe failed to pay state income tax from 2009-2011 and was arrested in February. A current assistant for the Utah Jazz, Lowe faces a court date in May.
9. Mike Tyson
On a 2013 episode of HBO's Real Sports, Tyson revealed he owes the IRS a seven-figure sum of money.
