Police: Marshall Henderson caught with cocaine, marijuana

OXFORD, Miss. — Mississippi basketball player Marshall Henderson, suspended indefinitely on Wednesday, was found by police with both marijuana and cocaine, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal broke the news: While stopped on suspicion of speeding May 4, Henderson gave an officer a small bag containing marijuana. A police dog turned up a separate bag containing a small amount of cocaine.

The amount of cocaine was less than one-tenth of a gram, not enough to prosecute. Henderson was cited for lack of proof of liability insurance.

Oxford police chief Joey East did not confirm the details of the incident but said his officers never booked Henderson.

"Marshall Henderson was very cooperative, and that's why just the citation was issued," East said.

Henderson led the Southeastern Conference by averaging 20.1 points a game and helped the Rebels win the SEC tournament and reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002.

In a statement Wednesday, Mississippi head coach Andy Kennedy said, "Since the season ended, we have talked a lot about Marshall taking a greater leadership role with our team. With that comes greater responsibility, and he must do a better job of living up to the high standards we expect from him and he desires from himself."
