Banged-up Jets acquire defenseman Jay Harrison
The injury-troubled Winnipeg Jets applied a patch to their defense by acquiring veteran Jay Harrison from the Carolina Hurricanes for a sixth-round pick.
The Jets have Jacob Trouba, Zach Bogosian, Tobias Enstrom and Mark Stuart all on the injured list. Harrison is a 6-4, 220-pound defenseman with 337 games of NHL experience.
With a 16-10-6 record, the Jets have played better than expected and Winnipeg general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was clearly feeling some pressure to make a move to help his team.
The Jets haven't made the playoffs since the franchise moved to Winnipeg from Atlanta. Their goaltending has played well enough to give the team a reasonable shot to qualify for the postseason.
Harrison was playing about 16 minutes, 30 seconds per game for the Hurricanes. He has this season and next season left on a contract paying him $1.5 million per season.
Harrison had played for Jets coach Paul Maurice when he coached in Carolina.
