Andy Reid: 'A couple of teams' have shown interest in first pick

PHOENIX — Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey have found the owner's meetings to be a potential shopping mall when it comes to entertaining offers for the top overall pick in the April 25-27 NFL draft.

"There've been a couple of teams that have talked to us,'' Reid told USA TODAY Sports at Tuesday morning's AFC coaches breakfast.

"We're going to keep all the options open. I said this when we had the second pick (with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999) and I was sitting at this meeting and (New Orleans Saints coach) Mike Ditka offered to trade me his whole draft.

"We'll keep it wide open.''

Ditka rocked the 1999 draft when he traded eight draft picks, including all of the Saints' 1999 picks and 2000 first and third-round selections for the chance to select running back Ricky Williams with the No. 5 overall pick.

Reid said the Chiefs are mulling "about eight to 10 guys, somewhere in there," should the Chiefs keep the pick.

With Reid statisfying his need for a quarterback with the Feb. 27 trade for San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Alex Smith, the consensus favorite is Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel. He would become the first non-quarterback selected No. 1 overall since Jake Long went first to Miami in 2008.

"John has put a tour together and we're going around the country looking at the guys we think and feel are worthy of that pick," Reid said. "We've hit two schools, Oregon and BYU, and we've got a bunch of them on the schedule.'
