Alicia Silverstone starts breast milk sharing program

Alicia Silverstone is giving new meaning to the phrase, "Got milk?"

The actress, a longtime vegan and vocal proponent of breastfeeding, is urging moms to share their milk through a new program.

She's calling it the "Kind Mama Milk Share," she writes on her blog, explaining it is a community service to "support those mamas and babies who need a hand."

She got the idea when a new mom/friend of hers couldn't produce enough milk and "tried reaching out in her community for donor milk, but it was almost impossible to figure out what kind of lifestyle choices the donors had made."

Silverstone, 36, writes, "If you have milk to share — post it! If you are in need of milk — post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!"

So far her site has been flooded with comments by new moms who love the idea. The Daily News and ABC News point out that experts and the FDA say breast milk donors need to be screened to make sure it's clean, healthy and virus-free.

We already know Silverstone is big on sharing. In 2012, she stirred up controversy by chewing up food and feeding it to her son, Bear Blu, who was 10 months old at the time.
