Bryce Harper's new commercial briefly gets very weird

Ted Berg, USA TODAY Sports

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper's new Under Armour commercial seems normal enough. It starts with an inspirational quote from Harper, then shows him getting ready for the baseball season: lifting weights, mashing homers with a bro… you know, Bryce Harper stuff. Nothing to see here:

But wait a second. What was that at the 26-second mark?

In the midst of an otherwise not-Tron'd out commercial in which Harper is otherwise fully clothed, here's shirtless Harper lifting glow-in-the-dark weights.

I suppose it's possible this is part of some other, thematically different Under Armour ad that was mostly left on the cutting-room floor. But I'm putting it at even-money that Bryce Harper actually powerlifts shirtless in the dark wearing glow-in-the-dark neon-green socks, and insisted Under Armour show him as such in the commercial.

So the director was all, "I don't know, it's pretty random, really," and the producer was like, "what if we just slip in, like, two seconds of it to keep him happy?" And so they did, and we all get a quick peek into Bryce Harper's weird neon weight room.

There's also Harper's hair in that scene, which appears to be a heretofore undiscovered Bryce Harper look. It's straight out of the 1950s, only depraved:

Yeah, you know what? I'm going to stop there.
