Almost two weeks after San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick was spotted wearing a Miami Dolphins hat, his recent sartorial decision is still generating discussion. This time it’s his 49ers teammate, Pro Bowl linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who voiced his opinion while appearing on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access Tuesday.

Via NFL.com:

“This is a huge mistake by Kaep,” Bowman said. “I’m sure he understands that now. In his defense, we’re young, in our era these days we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.”

“The hats now these days are very important to the outfit, so Kaep I understand what you did, but let’s stay away from the NFL teams,” he added. “Stick to NBA, go to college or the baseball hats.”

Considering some of the other off the field decisions made by NFL players this offseason, calling his choice in headwear “a huge mistake” is probably a bit overstated. I mean, it’s not even the worst hat choice made by an NFL player in the past two weeks.

If this is the most negative thing Kaepernick does in what looks to be a very promising career, the San Francisco 49ers will be very lucky. Kaepernick’s response to the hubbub, as shown below, spawned the outstanding #y’allmustbebored hashtag when he posted it on July 5.

Bowman and Kaepernick will finally get to discuss their fashion outlooks in person when 49ers veterans report to camp next Wednesday, at which point there will hopefully be more things to focus on than this tired topic.
