Does Donald Driver want to come back?

Donald Driver is in great shape and is still working out, but the retired wide receiver no longer is thinking much about a possible comeback with the Green Bay Packers.

"The organization has moved on to younger players, and that's a smart decision," Driver said in a phone interview.

"You always have that itch to want to play. But as time went on, I've been so busy I haven't had time to think about going to training camp or even showing up to the first game. Right now, I don't feel the need to come back."

Packers receiver James Jones, who played in Driver's golf tournament in Houston this summer, recently said he thought Driver might want to return for a 15th season in Green Bay.

Driver, 38, is the Packers' all-time leading receiver with 743 receptions, 10,137 yards and 61 touchdowns, but he had just eight catches for 77 yards in 2012.

"James wasn't lying," said Driver, who was in the Green Bay area on Wednesday at a charity golf outing and is helping to promote Target's campaign to give $5 million to schools around the country. "If I wasn't so busy, maybe I'd have that itch."

Driver's brother, Marvin III, said he feels Donald would return if the Packers called him, but as Donald has said in the past, it would be only for the Packers.

"To see him play in another uniform, I really can't see that," Marvin said. "Even though I would love to see him still continue to play, because I think he still has the ability to do so.

"But the fact that Green Bay didn't want to extend his contract, I love that he retired a Packer and kept his legacy intact to not tarnish that which he had built up."

Marvin said that because his brother keeps himself in great shape, he'd be ready to go right now.

"I think he completed that chapter in his life," Marvin said. "That chapter in his life was playing football. It is not necessarily uncompleted or uneven as it pertains to him and his legacy, but I think he does have the itch. He might not tell us, but when you've done it for so long, you can't help but have an itch for the game. An itch to be in training camp right now. An itch to prepare yourself mentally and physically.

"Does he want to (play)? Most definitely. Do we want him to? Most definitely. There is nothing like watching Green Bay on TV or being there in Lambeau Field."
