Rare Grateful Dead concert film coming to theaters

The Grateful Dead's previously unreleased concert Sunshine Daydream will be broadcast to about 450 movie theaters nationwide Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. local time. The 1972 concert on the grounds of the Oregon County Fair in Veneta, Ore., is one of the most legendary in the band's history. This is the third annual Grateful Dead Meet Up at the Movies event presented by NCM Fathom Events.

This undated photo of the Grateful Dead includes the late Jerry Garcia, seated left.

Special features include never-before-seen footage of the concert day and recently recorded interviews with key participants such as Ken Babbs, Sam Cutler, Wavy Gravy and Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia. They offer insights on the sense of community that day as they raised money to save the town's Springfield Creamery.

The playlist will include the tracks Bird Son, China Cat Sunflower, Dark Star, Greatest Story EverTold, Jack Straw, Playing In The Band, Promised Land, El Paso, Sing Me Back Home, and I Know You Rider.

Tickets for Grateful Dead Meet Up at the Movies 2013 are available at participating theater box offices and online at FathomEvents. Previous Meet Up at the Movies events featured The Grateful Dead Movie in 2011 and a July 18, 1989, concert at the Alpine Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis.
