USA TODAY's Talking Your Tech series regularly asks newsmakers for tips on their favorite apps. Here are 10 of their recent picks.

• Uber. The taxi cab alternative (ride in style, and book trips via smartphone) is beloved by CBS This Morning co-anchor Norah O'Donnell. "You can call a car to pick you up, and it's there in five minutes," she says. Open the app to reserve your cab, in certain cities.

• Pictwo. Supermodel Coco Rocha loves photo apps for her iPhone, and she likes using this 99-cent app (Apple iOS only) to merge two pictures into one. "All the things you get off (pro software) Photoshop, which is such an expensive computer software program (starting at $399) you can do right here."

• Meal Snap. Dr. Mehmet Oz — TV's Dr. Oz — likes this $2.99 app (Apple and Android). Take photos of your food and let it calculate the calorie count of each item. "Just point it and take a picture," he says.

• Trapster. Zach Braff, a co-star of the hit movie Oz: The Great and Powerful, uses this app (free, available for Apple and Android) to avoid speed traps. "Because I occasionally have a heavy foot."

• AstrologyZone ($3.99 for Apple and Android). Actress Paula Patton (Disconnect) starts every morning by opening the AstrologyZone app on her iPhone. "I like to look at my astrology every day."

• SoundHound (free, Apple and Android). Former governor Mike Huckabee enjoys this one."Hum a song, and the app will tell you what it is."

• Height Finder (free, Apple). NBC News anchor Brian Williams likes to use this app to figure out "what your height is above sea level, wherever you are in the world. Whether you're on the 30th floor of 30 Rock, or the mountains of Utah."

• Navigon (U.S. version $49.99 for Apple, $39.99 for Android). Weather Channel forecaster Jim Cantore likes this robust navigation app for getting directions.

• Google Maps (free for Apple and Android). Comic Joan Rivers says this is her favorite app, which she uses on her iPhone from the back of cabs to tell drivers which way to go. "I'm always in a car, always late for the airport."

• iTablaPro ($24.99, Apple only) Banjo master Bela Fleck is a fan of Indian music, and uses this app to practice world music while touring. "It will play any tabla beat you want," he says.
