ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska's most high-profile Republican, 2008 vice presidential candidate and former Gov. Sarah Palin, says she has "considered" running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democratic Sen. Mark Begich but she would like to see new candidates enter the race.

Responding to a question from Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity, Palin said Tuesday she's considered a run because people have asked her to.

She added she's waiting to see who will enter the race and hoping there "will be some new blood, new energy" from the GOP candidate pool.

She recently returned to Fox News as a paid commentator.

Alaska Republicans have two candidates so far for the 2014 race: Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and Joe Miller. Miller won the 2010 GOP primary against Sen. Lisa Murkowski only to lose to her in the general election as she mounted a historic write-in campaign.
