Watch the fastest 40 ever run by an offensive line prospect

Chris Strauss, USA TODAY Sports

If Arkansas Pine-Bluff offensive tackle Terron Armstead wasn't on the radar of NFL personnel before the scouting combine, he certainly is after Saturday morning's 40-yard-dash drills. The 6-5, 306-pound Armstead blazed through the sprint in an unofficial 4.65 seconds, the fastest time registered by an offensive lineman in the history of the event. The official mark ended up being confirmed as a 4.71.

Armstead wasn't the only big man displaying big speed. Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson, a converted high school quarterback, registered a 4.72, and four more linemen recorded times under five seconds. The fastest previous time since 2006 was former Missouri Southern State offensive lineman Allen Barbre's 4.84 in 2007.

Armstead also managed 31 reps in the bench press Friday, tying him for eighth among linemen who participated in that category. He started all 12 games at left tackle for FCS division Pine-Bluff. The Cahokia, Ill. native picked the school over several Division I-A offers because he wanted to participate in track and field, where he won eight SWAC titles in the shot put.
