Darvish makes Triple Crown winner look silly

It was built up as a heavyweight bout between Texas Rangers’ Yu Darvish and Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander. But the knockout punch was unexpected.

The epic moment came in the fifth inning when Darvish, who leads the majors in strikeouts, faced Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera,  one of the leagues best hitters. Darvish made Cabrera look completely silly on a nasty 62-MPH effis-type curveball.

Cabrera swung-and-missed and coiled like a corkscrew that even left Cabrera smirking after he caught his balance.

The slugger ended up grounding out to first baseman Mitch Moreland for the second out of the inning.

The Darvish-Verlander showdown quickly ended in the third inning when Verlander was taken out of the game after allowing a career-high seven runs in the third inning. It was Verlander’s shortest outing since 2010.
